"Fear Not" Mark 4:36-41 Big Idea: In times of trouble and doubt, Jesus will see us through. I. Eyes on the Storm (vv. 35-38) A) After a long day of teaching and ministry (vv. 1-34), Jesus calls His disciples into the boat to cross to the eastern side of the lake. Jesus knows what He's doing, and He knows what's coming. The disciples are about to be tested to see if they've learned what Jesus has been teaching and modeling B) The Sea of Galilee is prone to fierce storms and the disciples, most being experienced fisherman, know this. But we see: 1. Panic - The disciples were focused on the weather, not the one who controls it and as such gave in to fear 2. Perspective - It's almost as if the disciples had forgotten everything Jesus had taught them up to this point 3. Peace - Jesus is at peace, asleep in the stern of the boat. He is operating by faith, not fear C) This isn't to minimize our need for proper preparation, planning, or action when challenges and trouble face us. Nor is it to ignore that sometimes these troubles make us anxious. This is to say, however, that we need to keep our eyes on Jesus, not the storm, that His peace may fill us II. Eyes on Jesus (vv. 39-41) A) Jesus was woken up to chaos-the storm raging and His disciples freaking out. Jesus responded by changing the weather and challenging His disciples B) Amid the storm, remember: 1. Jesus is fully aware of the situation 2. Jesus is fully sovereign in the situation 3. Jesus is fully in control of the situation 4. If Jesus said you'll get to the other side, then you will C) Life is full of its share of storms, whether by our making or by circumstances. Jesus is fully aware of this. We can and should rest in Him that His great calm may rule in our lives
